Dr. Watters

Amanda Watters, MD

Class of 2028, Phoebe Family Medicine Residency

I grew up in North Georgia, where my family fostered a real sense of community and service starting at a young age. My passion for medicine and caring for my community was solidified through seeing how difficult accessing care could be for my friends, family, and neighbors. I was excited to pursue medicine as a way to bring care to my community members in need! I completed my bachelor’s degree at Sewanee: The University of the South and my master’s degree at Vanderbilt University. Prior to attending medical school at Tulane University School of Medicine, I spent some time working in drug development for solid tumor oncology. I chose Phoebe because I was excited to return to Georgia and learn to help care for underserved communities. I am thrilled to be a little closer to family and back in my home state and can’t wait to be able to begin to learn how to provide holistic and preventative care to the very community that inspired me to pursue medicine! Outside of medicine I love being outdoors, one of the biggest perks of Phoebe is being close to the quail capital of the world! I enjoy hunting, fishing, all kinds of sports (go Braves!) and you can generally catch me watching the game and cooking out with friends!

I was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and raised in Riverdale. I am the eldest daughter of Nigerian immigrants. I grew up in two different worlds simultaneously, but one thing that remained constant was the presence of disparities. I believe in striving toward the best version of myself so that I can be a part of positive change in the world. I pride myself in being able to connect with people through shared humanity and transparency.

I am a medical graduate from Ross University School of Medicine with my undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Born with a passion for both science and service, I pursued medicine to combine my curiosity about the human body with a deep commitment to helping others. Outside of medicine, I find balance and renewal in the outdoors. I am an avid mountain biker and snowboarder, and I seek out adventure whenever I can. I chose this residency program because it values teamwork, lifelong learning, and patient-centered care. I am excited to grow both personally and professionally as I contribute to a community of dedicated physicians.

I also spent a year conducting research at the Hughston Foundation Clinic in Columbus, Georgia, focusing on orthopedic and sports medicine topics.

I chose the Phoebe Family Medicine program because of the warm and welcoming atmosphere I experienced during my interview with the residents and faculty. I’m confident that the supportive environment and strong training will help me grow into the kind of physician I aspire to be.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, exploring new activities, fishing, working out, traveling, and discovering great food—I’m definitely a foodie!

Building meaningful connections and caring for the whole person is at the heart of what I do. I was born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised just outside of Austin, Texas. My path to Family Medicine was shaped by a passion for service, lifelong learning, and helping others feel seen and supported in their health journey. I have a strong background in research and a special interest in sports medicine and pain management. As a former athlete, I’m especially passionate about helping people stay active, feel their best, and reach their health goals.

Outside of medicine, I’m a big foodie who enjoys cooking and exploring different food cultures. You can also find me hiking with my dog or reading a good book. I chose the Phoebe Family Medicine Residency Program because of its broad training, unopposed structure, and the welcoming Southern hospitality that reminded me of home. I’m truly grateful to be part of this community and to care for patients in such a supportive environment.

I was born in Atlanta, Ga, raised throughout metro Atlanta, but grew up in an Igbo Nigerian household. My passion for Family Medicine comes from the fact that I will be caring for a variety of patients, from birth to their wisdom years, as well as having the opportunity to form deeper relationships with my patients. I love that for me and I hope that my future patients are able to feel that love as well. I went to Georgia State University for my bachelors and I graduated from Ross University School of Medicine. I chose Phoebe because it is an unopposed residency program. As a result, I will be able to take advantage of the full spectrum of what Family Medicine has to offer. Another reason was how welcoming the city of Albany, as well as the faculty and administrators of Phoebe, was towards me. I am a mother to a beautiful young boy and I hope that my drive and determination makes him proud. Some of my favorite things to do outside of hanging with family and friends, includes trying new recipes in the kitchen (or just eating some great food because let’s be honest… food is life), anything that keeps me active (gym/weight training, trails, hiking, etc.), and anything that caters to the right side of my brain (e.g., art, music, dancing, singing, writing, content creating, podcasting).

I was born in Tucson, Arizona and raised in Conyers, Georgia. My family immigrated to the US from India in the 1980s and made education their highest priority. I graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS in Business Administration and then completed my medical degree at American University of Antigua.

I chose Phoebe Putney because of the how all the people were during my interview experience. During my interview, I felt very welcomed to the program by all the faculty, administrators, and residents. I felt that they were very honest, kind, respectful, forthcoming, and everyone I interviewed with sounded enthusiastic about the program. I also wanted to be at an unopposed program so that I could have ample opportunities to be able to develop all of the skills necessary to become a competent practicing physician, which is how I decided that this program was the best fit for me.

Outside of medicine, I like to spend time with my family and friends, travel and explore new places, try new cuisines, and play tennis.

I was born and raised in sunny South Florida. I have always had a passion for family medicine, believing I can make a difference in primary care and helping the underserved communities. I attended American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine where I became the first member of my family to receive a medical degree.

I chose the Phoebe Family Residency because I was looking for an unopposed program in a more rural setting where there is a greater need for physicians. I believe the curriculum as well as the professionalism and strive for excellence displayed by the faculty and the residents is best suited for me. I am grateful to be in this program and look forward to the training and experience that will allow me to ensure the best quality of care for my future patients.

Outside of medicine, I love learning about history, geography, and different cultures. I also speak Spanish! I enjoy spending time with friends and watching sports (Let’s Go Miami Heat!)

I spent my childhood abroad in the Middle East, where I was immersed in a rich and diverse cultural environment from an early age. This international experience fostered my appreciation for different perspectives and inspired my passion for medicine. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology, with a minor in Entrepreneurship, from the University of Houston. I then pursued my medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine, followed by clinical clerkships at various hospitals throughout New York City, gaining extensive hands-on experience in diverse medical settings.

I chose the Phoebe Family Medicine Residency Program for its unopposed structure and dedicated mentors who prioritize residents’ training experiences. From the moment I interviewed, I felt the welcoming and supportive atmosphere. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a nurturing community and am confident that this program will help me become a well-rounded physician, capable of providing comprehensive and compassionate care.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy traveling, hiking, and spending time with family and friends. I am also passionate about health education and look forward to contributing to community outreach programs during my residency.

I am a “Grady Baby,” born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. My family immigrated from Johannesburg, South Africa to escape apartheid. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University and completed my graduate studies at Ross University School of Medicine. I am the first person in my family to attend college and become a doctor. Before entering medical school, I worked as a certified nursing assistant and organized a medical mission trip to assist underserved communities in South Africa. The experiences of my family members battling Parkinson’s disease, Pulmonary fibrosis, and Alzheimer’s Dementia inspired me to pursue a career in family medicine. I wanted to make a positive impact on individuals facing long-term illnesses such as those. During my sub-internship as a medical student, I valued the supportive environment fostered by Phoebe. It’s an unopposed program that blesses me with the opportunity to contribute to my community as a native of Georgia. Outside of medicine, I enjoy caring for my dog Banzai (Dutch shepherd, Mastiff, and Boxer mix), supporting my favorite MLS team (ATL UTD!!), weightlifting, hiking, crafting with my Cricut machine, and watching Disney movies!

I was born and raised in Concord, NC. I completed both my undergraduate and master’s degrees in public health at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.

In 2006, while I was in high school, my father had a stroke which ignited my desire to explore a career in medicine. After seeing how my father was treated by a family physician, I was inspired to pursue my dream of becoming a family medicine practitioner to provide the level of care that every patient deserves. I attended Ross University School of Medicine and completed my core rotations in Norwalk, CT. I chose Phoebe because the faculty and staff were so welcoming and wanted to see their residents thrive and develop into accomplished physicians. I also fell in love with the town of Albany as it reminded me of home, a small-town willing to do what is necessary for its community.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy visiting historical sites, playing video games, and spending time with my family at Walt Disney World. My favorite quote from Walt Disney which has guided me throughout my life is “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”

My small family of Romanian immigrants moved to Los Angeles County when I was four. Core values in our three-generation household included education, commitment, adaptability, taking care of our elderly and cooking at home. I completed a public K-12, college at Berkeley, and medicine at Ross.

Multiple experiences informed my interest in Family Medicine. First, my pediatrician recommended controlling asthma through swimming, inspiring my desire to help my future patients improve their health through exercise. Second, my younger sister, who was born with Down Syndrome, improved her abilities through support from her physician, my family and me, publicly funded social services, and the community. She works. Third, my mother became a Family Nurse Practitioner and highlighted the importance of collaboration to fill the large need in primary care. Fourth, I took care of my grandfather during the day while he was on home hospice and reflected on his preventable medical problems. I realized Family Medicine is king at prevention and maximizing quality of life.

I was born in Nigeria and obtained my MBBS degree from Ebonyi State University. I relocated to the USA after graduating to join my family in California. While in California, I worked in different hospitals as a clinical documentation specialist before going back to New York Institute of Technology’s College of Osteopathic Medicine for a DO degree and an MBA in progress. My passion for medicine developed from the good experiences I had from caring medical doctors that took care of me as a child in the hospital. At that early age, I decided to be part of a better experience any other patient would have during their hospital visit. Phoebe Family Medicine Residency Program has been so welcoming and has already integrated us as part of the family with excellent established learning opportunities. I am so grateful for the privilege of being here and look forward to giving my best to the community. My hobbies include gardening, cooking, singing, dancing and writing. Outside of medicine, I am a wife to my supportive husband and mother to our four beautiful children.

I was born in Opelika, Alabama, raised in Montgomery, Alabama, and completed my undergraduate and graduate studies in East Tennessee.

After shadowing my father in the emergency department, I soon learned that an occupation in Medicine would be one that involved variety, continual learning, and social interactions – all being factors that I have determined to be crucial to a satisfying career. These factors I found to be prevalent in Family Medicine, which led me to pursue this program. My interest in a medical career has further deepened as I have progressed through my undergraduate studies and research at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville, graduate studies at Lincoln Memorial University’s DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee, and core rotations in Crossville, Tennessee.

My personal hobbies/interests include tennis, whitewater rafting, computer building, and autocross racing.

I was born and raised in Haiti for most of my childhood and migrated to Miami, Florida, with my family at 13 years old.

I attended St. Thomas University for my undergraduate studies and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree. I then worked as a middle school science teacher. Later, I enrolled at Ross University School of Medicine, earning a Doctor of Medicine degree. When applying for residency, I was looking for a program to prepare me to become a full-spectrum family physician to serve the people in my community better, especially the underserved population. I chose Phoebe Family Medicine Residency because it is unopposed, and it has the resources and support I need to grow into the family physician I envisioned. Also, the moment I walked into my interview, I knew I wanted to be trained at Phoebe as I felt right at home and truly experienced the southern hospitality.

Outside of medicine, I am a wife and a mother to a very energetic boy. I love spending time with my family. I also enjoy cooking, dancing, and listening to music.

I am a Georgia native, born in Atlanta and raised right outside of Atlanta-proper. I am the first person in my family to obtain a medical degree. My passion for family medicine lies in being able to form long-term healthcare relationships. It is incredibly gratifying for me to be able to monitor a patient’s progress and their health outcomes. I enjoy practicing a patient-centered approach, being able to spend adequate time with patients during their visits, and the ability to explain preventative care, disease pathology, and personal treatment plans without feeling rushed. I chose Phoebe Family Medicine Residency because I want to practice medicine in the Southeastern U.S., the program is unopposed, and I can serve underserved and disenfranchised populations, all things that I am very passionate about.

When I’m not working or studying, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching and playing sports, gardening, exercising, DIY projects, video games, movies, exploring, and hanging out with my friends.

I was born and raised in Papillion, Nebraska. My family immigrated to the US from Vietnam in 1975 & 1990 and highly prioritized education. I graduated from Creighton University with a BS in Mathematics (2019) and then completed my medical degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (2023). I am the first person in my family to graduate medical school, and this is my first time living outside of Nebraska!

I chose Phoebe because of the people. During my interviews, faculty and administrators were honest, respectful, and kind — and now being here, this extends to the city of Albany itself. I also wanted to be at an unopposed program where I could develop my skills to the fullest without feeling like I was stepping on other people’s toes. Most importantly, I wanted to be involved in the care of this underserved community.

Outside of medicine, I like to spend time with my family and friends, take a good nap, and explore new places to eat. My talents include Mario Kart drifting, identifying Kpop songs & artists, and being able to drink 5 cans of Coca Cola in a single day (PR). I am hoping to win my family’s fantasy football league at least once in the next 3 years. And I am a proud Slytherin.

I was born in Bulgaria, and at age 12 my family and I moved to Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from high school, I decided to move back to my roots and study medicine in my birth country. There I discovered my passion for Family Medicine because I witnessed the importance of preventive care and what a difference it makes for our patients.

Applying to residency, I knew I wanted to apply somewhere warm and somewhere new to me; this led me to Georgia. Phoebe caught my attention because I was looking for an unopposed program where I knew I would receive full exposure to Family Medicine. However, the program truly won me over when I saw how friendly and welcoming everyone was, which wiped away any uncertainty I previously had about choosing this program. It was also pleasantly surprising to find out that Phoebe had built an apartment complex – Flaggstone – just for residents and students. This is something that is almost impossible to find at any other program.

Outside of medicine, I love go-karting, fitness, horror movies, and exploring new countries. I also enjoy doing all kinds of sports, driving stick shift cars and watching formula 1 races. (Go Red Bull!)

I was born and raised in Accra, Ghana. Migrated to Georgia, USA in 2011. My undergraduate education was at Georgia Gwinnett College where I majored in Biology. Throughout my undergraduate, I sought opportunities that allowed me to be of service to others, which I find immensely gratifying. Notably, my two-year experience volunteering at the surgical intensive care unit at Grady Health System prior to medical school. My medical education was at American University of Antigua. There, I continued to be of service to the community by volunteering at a care home that catered to developmentally delayed and disabled children. I completed my clinical rotations in New York, Florida, Ohio, Maryland, and California which exposed me to an array of patient populations. I am excited to be part of Phoebe and hope to use my medical knowledge to continue to serve the underserved and diverse patient population as this will serve as the bedrock to build my lifelong career as a dedicated physician.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy running, decorating and being with my family. Also, I might be the only Florida you’ll ever meet in Georgia. LOL!
