James Black, MD

Medical Director of Emergency Services

Dr. James E. “Eddie” Black is the Medical Director of Emergency Services at Phoebe. An Albany native, he is dedicated to serving his southwest Georgia and ensuring residents in the area have access to emergency care. Prior to joining Phoebe, Dr. Black served as an officer in the Navy from 1995 to 2000. He earned his medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed his residency at University of South Florida, Tampa General Hospital.

Mark Cohen, MD

Medical Director of Heart & Vascular Services

With more than 25 years of experience, Dr. Cohen is an interventional cardiologist and the Medical Director of Heart & Vascular Services. He received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He completed his cardiology fellowship at University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama.

Grace Davis, MD

Medical Director of Pediatrics

Dr. Grace Davis is the Medical Director of Pediatrics at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Originally from Jamaica, Dr. Davis moved to Albany in 1995 and then two years later moved to Sylvester, where she has practiced general pediatrics and adolescent medicine for the past 22 years. Dr. Davis earned her medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, MO and completed her residency in pediatrics at the University of South Florida. She also earned a master’s in public health with a concentration in maternal child health from the University of South Florida.

Leon Dent, MD

Medical Director of Trauma Services

Dr. Leon Dent is the Medical Director of Trauma Services at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. A native of Albany, Dr. Dent is dedicated to ensuring patients with severe and life-threatening injuries, or ailments, have access to trauma and surgical critical care. He earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in pharmacy from the University of Georgia and his medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. In addition, he earned a Master of Science in clinical research from Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, and a Master of Management in healthcare from Vanderbilt University Owen School of Management, Nashville, Tenn.

Chirag Jani, MD

Medical Director of Hematology/Oncology

Dr. Chirag Jani is the Medical Director of Hematology/Oncology for the Phoebe Cancer Center. Originally from India, Dr. Jani earned his medical degree from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda before completing his residency at New York Methodist Hospital. He completed fellowships in geriatrics, hospice and palliative care from the University of South Florida and hematology/oncology from the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Jani’s leadership and expertise has helped make the Phoebe Cancer Center one of the top cancer centers in the southeast.

Troy Kimsey, MD

Medical Director of Oncology

With more than 20 years of surgical experience, Dr. Troy Kimsey is a surgical oncologist and serves as the Medical Director of Oncology. He earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia, then went on to the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta, where he completed his Doctorate of Medicine and his Residency in General Surgery. Dr. Kimsey completed his Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He is board-certified in General Surgery.

Jay McAfee, MD

Medical Director of Radiation Oncology

Dr. Jay McAfee, a board-certified radiation oncologist and partner with Radiation Oncology Associates, serves as Medical Director of Radiation Oncology and as the Cancer Liaison Physician with the Commission on Cancer for the Phoebe Cancer Center. Born and raised in Albany, Dr. McAfee is dedicated to serving southwest Georgia. He earned his medical degree from Medical College of Georgia and completed an internship at University of Florida College of Medicine at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL.

Jyotir Mehta, MD

Medical Director of Critical Care Services

Dr. Jyotir Mehta is the Medical Director of Critical Care Services at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. He has been caring for patients in southwest Georgia for more than 20 years. Originally from India, he earned his medical degree from University of Indore, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College. Dr. Mehta completed a residency in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine from Harlem Hospital Center, Columbia University and a fellowship in critical care medicine from the Montefiore Medical Center, University Hospital for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Marla Morgan, MD

Medical Director of Neurology

Dr. Marla Morgan, the Medical Director of Neurology, is an Albany native and joined the team at Phoebe Neurology in 2010. Prior to joining Phoebe, she worked at The Kirklin Clinic at the University of Alabama Birmingham, where she served as assistant professor in the Department of Neurology, director of the Neurology Clerkship for the medical school and assistant director of the Neurology Residency Program. She earned her medical degree, completed her residency in Neurology and a Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship at the UAB School of Medicine.

Sanjay Munireddy, MD

Medical Director of Surgical Oncology

Dr. Sanjay Munireddy is the Medical Director of Surgical Oncology at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. He has a high level of expertise in surgical oncology, including breast conserving surgery and laparoscopic/robotic surgical technique. He earned his medical degree from Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences in India and completed his residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, MD. He also completed an internship at the University of South Florida College of Medicine and is fellowship trained from Roger Williams Medical Center, Boston University School of Medicine.

Rakesh Patel, MD

Medical Director of Radiology

Dr. Rakesh Patel is the Medical Director of Radiology at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. He specializes in musculoskeletal and diagnostic radiology, and he has more than 18 years of experience in medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, radiology residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and a musculoskeletal radiology fellowship at the University of California-San Diego.

William Sewell, MD

Medical Director of Women’s & Children’s Services

Dr. Bill Sewell is the Medical Director of Women and Children’s Services at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. He has practiced in Albany for 28 years, with more than 20 years in private practice as an OB/GYN, and the last 7 years in his current role. Dr. Sewell is board-certified in OB/GYN and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. A native of Columbus, GA, he earned his medical degree and completed an internship and residency at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center at Memphis. In 2020, he received his Physician’s Executive MBA from Auburn University.

Randall Shipley, MD

Co-Medical Director of Inpatient Medicine

Dr. Randall Shipley is the Co-Medical Director of Inpatient Medicine at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. He earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies and his internal medicine residency from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

Clay Thomas, MD

Co-Medical Director of Inpatient Medicine

Dr. Clay Thomas is the Co-Medical Director of Inpatient Medicine at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. He earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies and his residency from Phoebe Family Medicine Residency program.
