Phoebe Physicians Group

As the President of Phoebe Physicians, I am firmly committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce. Our associates should feel and believe that inclusivity begins with “I,” and this will positively affect the care that we deliver to patients throughout the Phoebe Physician Group and our Phoebe Putney hospitals. The communities we serve are diverse, and our associates should reflect that diversity as we seek to deliver care in an equitable, culturally competent, and unbiased manner.

Everyone deserves to feel welcome, supported, and respected in their work environment. At Phoebe Worth, we embrace diversity with the intention that every one of our team members have a full sense of belonging within our organization. As a business, it is imperative that every person adopts the responsibility to create and sustain an inclusive, equitable environment.

Our Commitment to Community

We are committed to the diverse communities we live in and serve. You can see that in our culture of providing safe care, superior service and exceptional care to our patients each and every day. In fact, we call that The Phoebe Way. We are able to continually provide that level of care by creating a diverse and inclusive working environment that reflects trust and belonging. When all employees feel as though they contribute to our core vision of ‘making every life we touch, better’, a positive impact can be seen in employee and patient experience, safety and outcomes.

Our Commitment to Health Equity

The Phoebe culture is built around three key components called “The Phoebe Way.” The Phoebe Family promises to make every life we touch better by putting Safety First, offering Superior Service, and providing Exceptional Care. In this way, we ensure everyone has an equitable opportunity to reach and maintain an optimal level of individual health and wellness regardless of any social drivers of health.

American Hospital Association’s Health Equity Transformation Assessment (HETA)

Phoebe’s Diversity Council is taking the lead on completion of the American Hospital Association’s Health Equity Transformation Assessment (HETA). We completed our first HETA in January of 2024 and are using the results as a framework to chart our path toward transformation beyond our health system by supporting a sustainable and equitable ecosystem of health care within the communities we serve.

  • Five positions on the HETA Continuum:
    • Exploring – publicly committing to embarking upon a journey toward health equity
    • Committing – committing resources to train, implement policies and practices that establish equity as the standard practice
    • Immersing – system-wide accountability for implementation of policies and procedures that support diversity, equity, and inclusion
    • Affirming – continuous equity self-assessments of policies and practices that remove structural barriers to equity
    • Transforming – supporting a sustainable and equitable ecosystem of healthcare within the community

Transforming

Health Equity through Culturally Competent Care

According to the American Hospital Association, cultural competency in health care is defined as the ability of systems to provide care to patients with diverse values, beliefs and behaviors, including the tailoring of health care delivery to meet patients’ social, cultural and linguistic needs. Providing culturally competent care to our patients is paramount to improved patient experience and outcomes. To that end, Phoebe is committed to providing training and resources to improve the cultural competence of all associates across our health system.
