Bladder Cancer (DRAFT)

Bladder cancer is common and usually originates in the urothelial cells that line the bladder’s interior. These cells are also present in the kidneys and the tubes connecting the kidneys to the bladder. While urothelial cancer can develop in the kidneys and ureters, it’s predominantly found in the bladder.

Your dedicated care team at Phoebe Cancer Center is committed to guiding you through a treatment strategy for bladder cancer. This approach merges cutting-edge medical findings with your unique preferences and requirements.

Types of Bladder Cancers We Treat:

Bladder cancer can be categorized into:

  • Urothelial carcinoma: Formerly known as transitional cell carcinoma, this type affects the cells lining the bladder’s interior.
  • Squamous cell carcinoma: This type is linked to long-term bladder irritation.
  • Adenocarcinoma: A rare type, adenocarcinoma originates in the bladder’s mucus-producing glands.

Treatment

The majority of bladder cancers are identified in their initial stages, making them highly responsive to treatment. However, even early-stage bladder cancers can recur post-treatment. As a result, regular follow-up tests are recommended for several years post-treatment to detect any potential recurrence.
