Lymphoma

“Lymphoma” is the general term for cancer in your lymphatic system — the network of tissues, vessels and organs that help your body fight infection. It’s considered a blood cancer because it starts in white blood cells (lymphocytes) in your lymphatic system. More than 70 types of lymphoma exist.

Your dedicated care team at Phoebe Cancer Center is committed to guiding you through a treatment plan for lymphoma. Our treatment program uses a multi-disciplinary team approach to deliver the highest level of care throughout our patients’ journey, from prevention to treatment and survivorship.

Types of Lymphoma We Treat:

There are two main lymphoma categories — Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma — and more than 70 lymphoma subtypes:

  • Hodgkin lymphoma: Hodgkin lymphoma can often be cured.
  • Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL): The prognosis of NHL depends on the specific type.

Lymphomas are categorized as low, intermediate, or high grade based on the type of lymphoma cells detected and their impact on lymph nodes and chromosomes. Certain lymphomas grow more rapidly and necessitate specialized treatment. The classification process is complicated due to the many types of lymphocyte cells that can be implicated.

Treatment

Common lymphoma treatments include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, CAR T-cell therapy and stem cell (bone marrow) transplants.
