Your team at Phoebe Cancer Center will create a treatment plan based on the latest findings of medical research, and your personal needs and preferences. Our treatment program uses a multi-disciplinary team approach to customized cancer care, helping build goals, set expectations, and explain any potential side effects of available treatments.

Types of Skin Cancers We Treat:

  • Basal cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma often appear as a lump, bump or lesion that forms on the outside layer of your skin (epidermis). These lumps form on areas of your skin that get a lot of sun exposure.
  • Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) or cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) is the second most common form of skin cancer after basal cell carcinoma. Adding the word “cutaneous” identifies it as a skin cancer and differentiates it from squamous cell cancers that can arise inside the body, in places like the mouth, throat or lungs.
  • Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that develops when melanocytes (the cells that give the skin its tan or brown color) start to grow out of control. Melanoma is much less common than some other types of skin cancers, but melanoma is more dangerous because it’s much more likely to spread to other parts of the body if not caught and treated early.

Treatment

Typically, treating head and neck cancers includes one or more treatment modalities, including:

  • Cryotherapy, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, Mohs surgery, immunotherapy, curettage and photodynamic therapy.

Skin cancer can spread to nearby tissue or other body areas if not diagnosed early; however, most skin cancers identified and treated in early stages are cured.
