About Jay McAfee, MD

Dr. William “Jay” McAfee is an Albany native and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Georgia, majoring in Biology. He earned his medical degree at Medical College of Georgia and completed a medicine internship at University of Florida College of Medicine at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.  He served as chief resident during his radiation oncology residency at University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In 2010, Dr. McAfee returned to Albany to join Radiation Oncology Associates at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital (PPMH).

Dr. McAfee has served as director of the Radiation Oncology Department at PPMH since 2016.  He also currently serves as a member of the PPMH Board of Directors. 

Coming back home was important to Dr. McAfee.  As he says, “Our region deserves to have top-notch care close to home and around their family whenever possible.”  That sense of family roots can be seen in how Dr. McAfee treats his patients – like family. 

He is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) and is board certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
