‘A Ray of Sunshine’: PPMH Labor & Delivery Nurse Recognized with DAISY Award for Unforgettable Support

Daisy Award Kyra Laney 2Albany, GA | August 7, 2025 – Kyra Laney, a dedicated labor and delivery nurse at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital has been recognized with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, an international honor that celebrates the compassionate care nurses provide patients and their families every day.

The heartfelt nomination came from a grateful family who faced an unexpected and emotionally intense delivery. After arriving during a shift change with labor rapidly progressing at just over 37 weeks, the family found themselves overwhelmed and fearful, until Kyra entered the room.

“Our nurse didn’t just go through the motions, she saw us, heard us, and walked every step of the journey with us. She was more than medical care; she was emotional support, spiritual strength, and a guiding light,” the family shared.

Throughout the experience, Kyra offered more than clinical expertise. She comforted the mother through the tears, sat with her, encouraged her, and shared in the family’s fears and hopes. She made the environment feel safe, normal, and even joyful, transforming what could have been a traumatic birth experience into one filled with warmth and peace.

From holding my hand to literally crawling on the floor to help me feel clean and comforted post-delivery, her care never stopped,” said the mother.

Kyra’s care continued through every vulnerable moment. The family describes her as “a ray of sunshine” who embodied the essence of nursing, balancing clinical excellence with deep humanity. Her presence was a blessing not just to the parents, but to the healthy baby girl they welcomed into the world.

“Kyra’s dedication, empathy, and clinical excellence truly embody what it means to be a Phoebe nurse. She not only delivered outstanding care but provided emotional and spiritual support during a critical time for this family. We are proud to honor her with the DAISY Award, a recognition she deeply deserves,” said Maureen Jackson, PPMH Chief Nursing Officer.

“We are so thankful that the Lord placed her and us together at the same time. We hope she knows the impact she made on us will never be forgotten,” said the family.
