From NICU Baby to Future NICU Nurse: Hannah Lockett’s Inspiring Journey
Albany, GA | February 27, 2024 – Recently, we welcomed Hannah Lockett to our new Trauma & Critical Care Tower for a tour of our new NICU.
Born at just 26 weeks and weighing only 1 pound, 10 ounces, Hannah spent her first weeks fighting for life in Phoebe’s NICU.
Her mom, LaPorshe, remembers the challenges—waiting a month to hold her, seeing IVs placed in tiny, fragile veins. But Hannah defied the odds.
Now a senior at Westover High School, she’s excelling in dual enrollment, set to graduate in May with 40 college credits toward her associate’s degree. She’s narrowing down her college choices, but this fall, she will head off to college to pursue her dream—becoming a NICU nurse.
“I feel a special connection to the NICU because I was once there,” Hannah says. “I love kids, and I want to do something to help people.”
Her journey from a NICU baby to a future NICU nurse is a full-circle moment of resilience, passion, and purpose. We can’t wait to see her make a difference in the lives of tiny fighters just like her!
