Phoebe and SOWEGANS Soccer Club Announce New Partnership

Group

Albany, GA | May 6, 2025 – Phoebe and the SOWEGANS Soccer Club announced a new partnership as the team unveiled its 2025 season schedule and roster.  Phoebe will be the premier partner for the Leesburg-based team this year and the sole sponsor of two upcoming SOWEGANS SC youth soccer camps.

“The Phoebe vision is ‘to make every life we touch, better.’  Obviously, our greatest responsibility is to our patients, and we are committed to putting Safety First, offering Superior Service and providing Exceptional Care to everyone, every day, in our hospitals and clinics” said Scott Steiner, Phoebe Putney Health System President & CEO.  “But we also believe we have a responsibility to invest in our communities in ways that encourage wellness and make life better for the people of southwest Georgia.  That’s what we’re doing by supporting SOWEGANS SC.”

Coming off a 2024 season that saw them win the Eastern Conference Championship in the Gulf Coast Premier League, SOWEGANS SC this year joined The League for Clubs, an innovative summer amateur league designed to foster growth, community engagement and opportunities for both players and fans.

“We see our club as a real community asset.  Not only do we want to give young soccer players an opportunity to develop and thrive, we want to raise the profile of soccer in our region and give people throughout southwest Georgia a team to rally around and family-friendly game experiences to enjoy together,” said Club President Josh Duckworth.

The League for Clubs includes 50 teams from coast to coast.  SOWEGANS SC will compete in the Gulf Coast Conference with seven other teams from Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi.

“This new league will bring a higher level of competition and greater exposure, and it gives us the chance to compete for a national championship.  We look forward to creating good-natured rivalries with our conference opponents and entertaining our fans with quality soccer,” Duckworth said.

SOWEGANS SC play their home matches at the Lee County Track & Soccer Complex at 343 Leslie Highway and kick off the 2025 season on Saturday, May 10 at 7:15 p.m. with a home match against Pensacola FC.  The remaining home games are:

  • Saturday, May 24 at 7:15 – Valdosta FC
  • Saturday June 14 at 7:15 – Tallahassee SC
  • Saturday June 21 at 6:30 – Union 10 FC

Single game tickets are available at the gate on match day — $10 for adults and $5 for youth.  Refreshments will be available from the concession stand and food trucks.

“We’ve put together a talented roster primarily made up of college-aged players.  We’ve got a good mix of guys with connections to our region and international players, and they’re ready to hit the field and show our supporters what they can do,” said Head Coach Ricky Zambrano.

Assistant Coach Jared Beauchamp and some of the SOWEGANS SC players will lead two summer camps for boys and girls ages 7-16 of all experience levels.  The camps will be held on May 26-29 and June 16-19 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Registration is open at www.soweganssc.com

Phoebe will also provide athletic training services for the team for home games this year.

“We’re excited to be part of the 2025 season and do our part to support the team,” said Jordan Knoefler, MD, Sports Medicine Specialist at Phoebe Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.  “We hope families will come out and enjoy the games and sign up for the camps and cheer on the players.  We look forward to seeing a lot of fans in the stands.”
