Phoebe Cancer Center Offers Free Lung Cancer CT Screenings During November
Albany, GA | November 8, 2024 – In recognition of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, the Phoebe Cancer Center is offering free, low-dose CT screenings for lung cancer to uninsured residents who meet eligibility criteria through the LungWatch Screening Program.
These screenings are available throughout November and aim to provide early detection of lung cancer for high-risk individuals.
The free screening is open to uninsured individuals aged 50-77 who have not had chest CT imaging in the past 12 months and meet specific health criteria, including:
• No history of fever, chest pain, shortness of breath, or unexplained weight loss
• No new or changing cough, and no coughing up blood
• Residing in one of the following Georgia counties: Baker, Calhoun, Colquitt, Crisp, Dougherty, Early, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Randolph, Sumter, Terrell, Tift, Turner, and Worth
To qualify, individuals must also be referred by a healthcare provider. Phoebe Cancer Center’s goal is to provide these screenings to the first 100 eligible individuals, with a focus on early diagnosis and preventive care.
“We are proud to offer these screenings at no cost to uninsured patients, helping to remove financial barriers that might prevent some people from seeking potentially lifesaving early detection. Our LungWatch Program is a vital part of our mission to improve lung health in the communities we serve,” said Ursula Mathis-Dennis, Oncology Quality Director.
Lung cancer remains the second-most common cancer among Americans, and early detection can play a critical role in reducing the mortality rate. According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 234,580 new cases of lung cancer will be diagnosed in 2024, with nearly 125,070 lives lost to the disease.
Individuals without a healthcare provider can contact Phoebe LungWatch at 229-312-5753 for assistance in determining eligibility and accessing the screening. For more information on this free lung cancer screening or to schedule an appointment, please call Phoebe LungWatch at 229-312-5753.
