Phoebe Earns Best of Georgia Awards in Two Categories

BOGA Ribbon 2024 Best RGBforWebAlbany, GA | January 31, 2025 – Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital (PPMH) and Phoebe Bariatrics are 2024 Best of Georgia winners in Georgia Business Journal’s annual readers’ poll.  Best of Georgia winners and nominees are chosen by a combination of readers’ votes and editors’ input and are vetted through several ranking sites, complaint reports and voting pattern analysis reports.

PPMH is one of four statewide winners in the Hospital category.  The other three winners are Emory University Hospital, Northside Hospital Atlanta and Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center.

“Our team at Phoebe’s flagship hospital in Albany is committed to The Phoebe Way – our commitment to make every life we touch better by putting Safety First, offering Superior Service and providing Exceptional Care to everyone, every day,” said PPMH President Deb Angerami.  “We greatly appreciate any recognition of that commitment and of the hard work the Phoebe Family puts in every day to serve our community well.”DSC03989 1

As the largest hospital offering the most comprehensive advanced healthcare services in southwest Georgia, PPMH admitted 17,690 patients last fiscal year.  Over that same period, the hospital had 63,514 emergency center visits, performed 12,481 surgical procedures and delivered 1,914 babies.  The hospital includes a Level II Trauma Center – one of only two Level II Trauma Centers in Georgia south of Atlanta – and its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is one of six regional perinatal centers in Georgia, caring for babies born in 22 counties in southwest and southcentral Georgia.  PPMH recently opened a $150 million Trauma & Critical Care Tower that will enhance the emergency & trauma, neonatal intensive care and surgical intensive care services it provides.

DJI 0072 1Phoebe Bariatrics, based at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, is one of four statewide Best of Georgia winners in the Weight Loss Center category.  It is a nationally accredited comprehensive center that has great success at reaching its goal of long-term weight loss for patients.  The Phoebe Bariatrics team includes two board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeons, as well as nurses, dietitians, physical therapists and financial counselors.

“We provide a true team approach and offer individualized care for each patient to give them the best chance for success,” said Phoebe Bariatrics Surgeon Jeremy Joyner, MD.  “I think our patients have such great outcomes because we take the time to really get to know them and understand their goals, and we treat them as if they are members of our family.”

Nearly all of Phoebe’s bariatric surgeries are now performed using a robotic surgical system that has decreased the lengths of hospital stays for patients and reduced the risk of complications.  Phoebe Bariatrics completes an average of around 140 bariatric procedures per year.  To find out if you may qualify for bariatric surgery or to sign up for an online seminar that begins the bariatrics process, visit www.phoebeweightloss.com.
