The funding will help strengthen breast cancer screening services and improve access to essential screenings for women throughout southwest Georgia.

Regular mammograms play a critical role in detecting breast cancer early, when treatment is often most effective. The new equipment will help the Carlton Breast Health Center continue providing important screening services for patients throughout the region.

“This new mammography unit will be a wonderful addition to the Carlton Breast Health Center,” said Shailaja Sappati, MD, Medical Director for the Carlton Breast Health Center. “It will improve patient access to important breast cancer screenings and help us continue providing high-quality care that puts patients first. Most importantly, it strengthens our commitment to making essential healthcare services more accessible to the communities we serve.”

For the Phoebe Foundation, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is also an opportunity to recognize the role philanthropy plays in bringing important healthcare resources to the community.

“Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an important reminder of just how much early detection matters,” said Parker Douglas, Director of the Phoebe Foundation. “Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we’re able to help bring important screening technology to more women in our community. This is exactly what philanthropy should do – turn generosity into resources that can have a lasting impact on people’s lives.”

While October brings additional attention to breast cancer, the importance of early detection extends throughout the year. Women are encouraged to talk with their healthcare providers about when to begin mammograms and how often they should be screened based on their age, health history and individual risk factors.

Through investments like this one, the Phoebe Foundation and its donors are helping ensure women across southwest Georgia have access to essential breast health services close to home.
