Phoebe Graduates Latest Class of Family Medicine Residents
Albany, GA | July 1, 2024 – The Phoebe Family Medicine Residency (PFMR) Program honored the Class of 2024 at a graduation ceremony Saturday at Doublegate Country Club. The seven members of the class spent the last three years completing post-medical school training at Phoebe, and they bring the total number of graduates in the history of Phoebe’s residency program to 169.
Two of the graduates are staying with Phoebe to practice as primary care physicians. Uchechi Aguwa, MD, will work at Phoebe Primary Care at Meredyth in Albany and Shivan Patel, MD, will treat patients at Phoebe Worth Family Medicine in Sylvester. A third graduate will also remain in southwest Georgia. Xavier Capalla, MD, is going to work for Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton.
“This was an outstanding class of residents. We congratulate them on their accomplishments and wish them well as they start their careers as practicing physicians,” said Clifford Dunn, MD, PFMR Program Director. A primary goal of our program is to increase the number of physicians in southwest Georgia, so we are especially excited that three of these graduates are staying in the region, including two that will continue to be part of the Phoebe Family.”
Awards were also presented at the graduation ceremony. Dr. Patel and Michelle Wilson, MD, were honored for serving as Co-Chief Residents of the Class of 2024. Dr. Wilson was also chosen as Resident of the Year, and Jordan Bradwell, DO, was named Intern of the Year after completing his first year of the residency program.
The residents voted on teaching awards. They picked Shaun Franklin, MD, as Residency Teacher of the Year and In-Patient Faculty of the Year. The named Marla Morgan, MD, as Community Faculty of the Year and Gregory Steele, FNP-BC, as Advanced Practice Provider of the Year.
