Phoebe Returning to Normal Operations after Historic Winter Storm

Albany, GA | January 23, 2025 – Phoebe shut down its Incident Command Center at 10 a.m. Thursday, with plans to return fully to normal operations Thursday afternoon following the historic winter storm that dumped 6-8 inches of snow across much of the region.  Inpatient and emergency services continued uninterrupted at all Phoebe hospitals, though some outpatient clinics were unable to open Wednesday because hazardous road conditions made it difficult for both patients and employees to travel. All Phoebe urgent care, primary care and specialty care clinics reopened at 11 a.m. Thursday, except clinics in Americus and Ellaville that were delayed until 1 p.m. due to a local state of emergency.  Urgent Care telehealth appointments remain available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and can be scheduled at www.phoebehealth.com.

“The storm was even worse than predicted, but our teams were ready.  I’m extremely proud of how the Phoebe Family came together to overcome challenges, minimize disruptions and ensure we provided our community the care and service they needed throughout the storm,” said Phoebe Putney Health System President & CEO Scott Steiner.

Phoebe set up dozens of cots at Healthworks, the employee gym and wellness center on its main campus, and also provided sleep accommodations in other departments in Albany, as well as at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and Phoebe Worth Medical Center.  Employees who did not think they could safely travel to and from work were invited to spend the night at their respective campuses to ensure the hospitals had adequate staffing throughout the storm.  Phoebe provided free meals to those employees and even instituted a volunteer transportation team of made up of workers with 4-wheel drive vehicles who provided rides for employees who would otherwise have been unable to make it in for their shifts.

In Albany alone, Phoebe provided more than 50 rides for employees, as well as overnight stays for more than 330 employees, not including leaders and members of the medical staff who also stayed overnight.

Patients who may have missed appointments may call their provider’s office or 229-312-4800 to reschedule.
