PPMH Re-Dedicates Paver Pathway

DSC09600 1Albany, GA| March 25, 2025 – Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital (PPMH) hosted its annual Spring Paver Dedication Ceremony, celebrating the reinstallation of the Memorial Brick Pavers and the dedication of new pavers.

This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the Paver Program, which the Phoebe Foundation established in 1992. The pathway now features more than 3,300 pavers, each representing a tribute from a donor or a heartfelt dedication to a loved one.

“Phoebe Putney has played such an important part of the Hughey family as well as our extended family throughout the years.  Joyful births as well as loving tender care before deaths.  The paver dedication area is like a gigantic hug around all our family members that will be cherished forever.  Walking through the paver area is like a family reunion of memories that live on for all of us,” said Sharon Hughey, Paver Donor.

“Last Fall, because of construction on our main campus, the pavers were removed and carefully stored until they could be reinstalled this Spring. The redesigned paver pathway is a beautiful, restful place to come and reflect and just enjoy some fresh air. This year is extra special as we dedicate this year’s pavers and re-dedicate the entire new Pathway,” said Hillary Murphy, Phoebe Foundation Philanthropy Officer.

Proceeds from the Memorial Brick Pavers help sustain vital programs such as:

  • Tea for the Soul: Offering moments of rest and reflection, serving 425 staff members in 2024.
  • Honor Walks: Coordinated by the Chaplaincy Department to recognize organ donors with dignity and honor their families, with 10 walks conducted in 2024.
  • Blessing of the Hands Ceremonies: Uplifting and encouraging healthcare workers, blessing 834 staff members in 2024.

“These programs foster resilience, honor sacrifices, and promote emotional and spiritual well-being for the entire hospital community,” said Rev. Joey Holland, PPMH Manager of Chaplaincy.DSC09629 1

“Families tell us over and over how meaningful the paver pathway is to them for remembering and celebrating milestones.  From the loss of a friend or special family member to celebrating the birth of a baby or a special anniversary—this space gives them a physical space to visit and reflect,” said Murphy
