About Derek Heard, MD

Derek Heard, MD, brings a wealth of knowledge to this position. Not only has he been a member of the Phoebe Family for 10 years, but Dr. Heard has been a part the medical community in this area for 16 years.

He graduated from Albany State University in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in biology before graduating from the Medical College of Georgia in 1999. Dr. Heard completed his residency at Phoebe Family Medicine Residency in 2002.

Dr. Heard currently serves as the Chairman of the Southwest Georgia Diabetes Coalition, is a member of the Board of Directors for the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians and was named the 2017 Phoebe Physician of the Year.
