Investing in the Future of Healthcare

Phoebe is investing $200 million in two critically important projects that will transform the delivery of healthcare in southwest Georgia and ensure Phoebe can meet the evolving healthcare needs of our region for many years to come.

Phoebe’s new Trauma & Critical Care Tower will be home to the region’s largest and most advanced trauma and emergency center, an expanded state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit and a new 20-bed adult intensive care unit.

A Better Future

The Living & Learning Community is an innovative project that will address the area’s critical nursing shortage by creating a new pipeline of nurses and other in-demand health professionals. It will include a vastly expanded nursing school for Albany Technical College, as well as apartments where dozens of nursing students can live together on the same campus where they learn and train.

Together, these transformational facilities represent the largest construction project in the Albany area and the most significant investment in new healthcare infrastructure in southwest Georgia in recent years. They will help Phoebe remain the region’s largest provider of quality, comprehensive and advanced health services, meeting the healthcare needs of the people of southwest Georgia for years to come.

These joint projects will have an anticipated impact of more than $400 million on the local economy.

The projects will create temporary construction jobs, permanent healthcare and education jobs and bring new residents to the historic neighborhood around Phoebe’s main campus. They will enhance the Jefferson Street thoroughfare – a primary entrance to downtown Albany – and have already spurred interest in additional development in the area.

Phoebe Focus Commitment

The Trauma & Critical Care Tower and Living & Learning Community are the latest and largest projects in our Phoebe Focus commitment. In 2019, we unveiled Phoebe Focus – a new strategy, philosophy, plan and approach to guide Phoebe into the future. It included major capital investments and renewed commitments to patient safety and customer service. Though the COVID-19 pandemic delayed some of our plans, we have made substantial progress on our Phoebe Focus pledges, including on the six key areas of investment we outlined when we kicked off Phoebe Focus.

We are also well on our way to becoming a High Reliability Organization, having completed Safety First training for nearly all employees, embedding that training in orientation for all new employees and focusing on continuous Safety First skills habit formation to ensure all members of the Phoebe Family are fully committed to our culture of safety.
